4 Ways to Repeat Outfits Without Anyone Noticing

Maintaining a good closet can feel like a full-time job sometimes. Between the constant stream of fleeting trends and the already-worn items in your wardrobe, it’s easy to feel like you always need a shopping trip to find new things to wear. Wearing the same outfit over and over isn’t just easily noticed by others, but it’s also less than exciting to leave the house wearing the same exact thing time and time again.

Thankfully, there are ways to get out of an outfit-repeating rut. Yes, you can still totally rewear pieces of the same outfit and, no, you don’t have to put in a bunch of extra time and effort towards reworking your closet. Perhaps best of all, you won’t feel the constant need to buy new clothes all the time. Below, you’ll find a few ways to wear outfits more than once without anyone noticing.

1. Use Your Basics: This might seem like a no-brainer, but truly no closet is complete without a great set of basics. These are the main factors in getting away with closet repeats. Make sure your closet is stocked with a winning lineup of basic pieces before each season in order to get the most wear out of the items in your closet. Basics for fall should include items like a black turtleneck, solid-colored layering pieces like tank tops and simple sweaters, a black or brown leather, faux leather or suede jacket, a pair of women’s jeans that you love wearing and a black or grey skirt and heels, sneakers, boots and booties to match. Including some of these items can make other pieces look different and make your life easier when it comes to curating an outfit.

2. Switch Up Your Outerwear: When it comes to the cooler months, outerwear is sometimes the only thing that is seen or remembered about an outfit. Furthermore, a dress or skirt and sweater combination can be totally transformed depending on the selection of cute coats you have available in your closet. If you’ve recently worn an outfit with a certain coat or jacket on top, consider rewearing the bottom layer and switching up what you layer on top! Make the jacket or coat area the focal point of your reimagined outfit by choosing a statement necklace or colorful printed scarf to accompany your outerwear. This is an easy outfit fix that won’t let anyone know you recently wore the same thing.

3. Play Up Hair and Makeup: It’s no secret that a little lipstick and dry shampoo can go a long, long way. However, have you ever thought about using your beauty and hair skills to revamp a pre-worn outfit? It’s easier than you might think, and it works great for dressing up a more casual dress. First, make a note of what your hair and makeup looked like when you wore the dress before. If you went for a casual look with loose waves in your hair and little to no makeup, then it’s definitely time to spice things up. Create a moment of drama with your hair by pulling it into a clean bun, braid or twist. The simple task of pulling your hair off your shoulders elevates the look instantly and adds easy elegance.

Next, draw attention to your eyes and lips by creating a cohesive eye and lip look that works with the color of your dress. If you’re wearing a neutral-colored dress or a classic little black version of a casual frock, you can never go wrong with a timeless red lip. Find out which eyeshadow colors make your eyes pop most and create a smoky eye look based on that color palette. Switch up your jewelry and shoe situation from last time and you’ve got a perfectly chic outfit repeat.

4. Reimagine a Piece of the Look: Some pieces are tough to rewear because they don’t allow for much creative wiggle room…or so you think. If you’re thinking of re-wearing an outfit but aren’t sure how to change things up, take a stab at reimagining a single piece. For instance, you can layer a chunky sweater over your favorite maxi dress to keep warm and make the dress look like it’s a long skirt. You can also do this by wearing a silky scarf in your hair, as a shirt or even as a belt. Let your creative juices flow and see what you can do!

Even if you repeat an outfit, the important part is that you feel comfortable, confident and beautiful. Use these tips as a guideline when you’re feeling crafty or creative and see how much you can get out of your current closet!
