Earlier this year, news that Ava DuVernay might be directing a sci-fi thriller, Intelligent Life, starring Lupita Nyong’o had us pretty excited. The Hollywood Reporter, which first broke the original news, is now reporting that DuVernay has cut ties with the project due to scheduling conflicts.

The news, while probably a bit of a bummer for those of us who love sci-fi and Ava DuVernay should come as no surprise as the critically acclaimed director has quite a bit on the her plate from a television series, to a distribution company, to several other film projects.

Nyong’o is still set star in Intelligent Life, however. It was also first reported that filming would begin this summer, now word on whether or not that has changed.
