Channing Dungey Becomes First Black Woman to Run a Broadcast Network.

Channing Dungey

Following the ousting of former network president Paul Lee, the ABC network has named Channing Dungey as its new president of entertainment. Dungey, who most recently served as executive VP of development for dramas, movies and miniseries, is now the first black woman to run a broadcast network.

The decision comes amid a troubled time for ABC, which is experiencing an overall ratings drop, despite the success of powerhouse dramas — Scandal, Grey’s Anatomy, and How To Get Away With Murder — all helmed by Shonda Rhimes.
