He’s ‘not suffering anymore.’ Laila Ali Mourns Her Father and Honors His Legacy.

Following the death her father, legendary activist and athlete Muhammad Ali, Laila Ali shared her grief during an appearance on the TODAY show, this morning.

“I personally have been sad for a long time, she said. “It’s not easy, it wasn’t easy, to watch him suffer. Knowing he’s not suffering anymore gives me comfort. I’ve prepared mentally for many years, that obviously one day I was going to lose my father and that time has come.”

Muhammad Ali, who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s syndrome in 1984, faced ongoing health battles over the years. He passed away on June 3rd, 2016 at the age of 74, after being hospitalized near his home in Scottsdale, Arizona a day earlier.

Ali was frequently seen alongside daughter Laila, his eighth child out of nine, throughout her boxing career.

“The whole world is sad. I don’t feel alone. It’s not just our family, it’s the whole world,” said Laila Ali. “It was time for him to go and I know he’s in a better place now, and he’s talking again and moving again and doing all the things he couldn’t do in his body. I’m happy for that, even though I will miss him deeply.”
