Met Gala 2023 Fashion

Celebrities hit the not-red carpet for fashion’s biggest night — the 2023 Met Gala. The theme of the evening pays homage to the late, great Karl Lagerfeld. Lagerfeld designed for some of the biggest houses in the industry, including Chanel and Fendi, in addition to his eponymous brand. This year’s Gala also marks the opening of the Costume Institutes newest exhibition, “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty.” The exhibition will celebrate Lagerfeld’s life and creations.

Penélope Cruz, Michaela Coel, Roger Federer are serving as this year’s hosts, with Dua Lipa and Anna Wintour as co-chairs. Wintour has directed the Met Gala since 1995.

When it comes to the carpet we were expecting to see a lot of Chanel and Chanel-inspired looks, with most celebrities staying on code. With that, here are some of the best looks worn by black celebrities at the 2023 Met Gala.

Anok Yai sparkles in Prabal Gurung. The look definitely harkens back to some of the more striking and glamorous looks that often hit the runway at Chanel couture shows. Her eyepiece accessory seems to draw inspiration from a classic fascinator.
