If you follow any artsy Tumblr, Instagram, or Twitter accounts, odds are you’ve come across the work of Oresegun Olumide over the past few days. The Lagos-born Nigerian artist is quickly going viral as a result of his hyperrealistic oil paintings. The most stunning images feature droplets of water and bodies of water, a recurring theme in Olumide’s works.
Olumide tells CNN that water features prominently in many of his works because according a saying in Yoruba, “water has no enemy.” The 35-year-old, who majored in Fine Art at the Yaba College of Technology, says that each painting takes roughly three weeks to complete.
