Throwback. Joe Bullet. The Previously Banned South African Blaxploitation Film.

Joe Bullet, Blaxploitation

Produced by Tonie van der Merwe and starring Ken Gampu, Abigail Kubeka and Cocky ‘Two Bull’ Tlhotlhalemaje “Joe Bullet” is often credited as the first South African film to feature an all black South African cast. The film, which was once banned by the apartheid government in South Africa was recently restored by the Gravel Road African Film Legacy (GRAFL) Initiative by the Waterfront Film Studios in Cape Town. It will premiere this week at the Durban International Film Festival (DIFF).

The action-packed film was only screened twice at the Eyethu cinema in Soweto before being banned. The film will also be available for worldwide release. For updates and information follow “Joe Bullet” on Facebook.
