In what many are calling a snub, Ava DuVernay’s critically-acclaimed picture Selma, scored just one nomination, “Best Picture,” a decision by the academy that left both DuVernay and David Oyelowo out in the cold at this year’s Oscars.
The NAACP Image Awards, however, nominated DuVernay for “Outstanding Directing in a Motion Picture”, alongside Amma Asante for Belle and Gina Price-Blythewood for Beyond the Lights. David Oyelowo also scored a nomination for “Outstanding Actor in a Motion Picture.”
The breakout indie film Dear White People also scored a nomination for “Outstanding Independent Motion Picture,” for which Amma Asante’s Belle was also nomination.
