Selina Thompson is a visual and performance artist based in Leeds, United Kingdom. She is known for her whimsical and intimate works, that often take on a life of their own.
Thompson is currently preparing her upcoming show, SALT, which can be described as a combination of “grief, ancestry, home, forgetting and colonialism.”
As part of her research for SALT, Thompson consulted over 850 people in a year. For the next leg of her research, she will spend 42 days at sea, embarking on a voyage which will take her along one route in the Transatlantic Trade Triangle. Thompson’s trip will take her to Jamaica and Ghana. She will also be traveling with filmmaker Hayley Reid. The two creators plan to conduct interviews, share meals, and reflect on the meaning behind SALT.
The project has already gained the support of local groups in Accra and Kingston, as well additional support from the Mayfest and Yorkshire Festivals in the UK — both major film festivals. Thompson is currently in the process of raising the last bit of funds for SALT. Support her on Go Fund Me.
