Tumblr user Volmarrr recently brought this awful array of images to our attention, courtesy of Cosmopolitan Magazine.
Of the 42 pictures of women in featured in the article, the only 4 images that use women of color are “trends that need to die.” Needs to say, the visual of the only black women in this collection, other than Nicole Richie, with a giant “RIP” over their foreheads is pretty disturbing, if not triggering.
The Tumblr post has since gone viral, and the original article has been shared over 80,000 times on Facebook. Several users have expressed their dismay at the offensive article.
this is blatant racism. stop letting random white women submit articles and get a real staff @Cosmopolitan pic.twitter.com/SCCe4t65QE

Rare to see women of colour in a mainstream magazine. And when you do it's to tell us we're ugly.. @Cosmopolitan pic.twitter.com/6G1DCyveBx

Cosmo has since quietly changed the article, without offering an apology or an explanation. This isn’t the first time that the mag has been called out for racism and racial insensitivity. Perhaps they should stick to sex tips — or not.
