Dr. Foyekemi Ikyaator is a 31-year-old doctor of Nigerian descent, who recently opened a stand-alone emergency room in Houston, Texas. Ikyaator, who graduated from University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health on full scholarship, moved to Houston after completing her residency in Emergency Medicine at the Emory School of Medicine and Public Health, in Atlanta, GA. Her move to Houston, where she worked in the St. Luke’s Health System, allowed her to gain experience and to see the emergency healthcare needs of the community firsthand.
“In the emergency room you can see between 20 and 30 patients within a shift and [there] is just enough time to treat them and get them to their next point of care,” says Ikyaator.
The experience led Ikyaator to open Life Savers Emergency Room, a free-standing emergency room in Houston, Texas. Ikyaator points out that facilities such as Life Savers can provide emergency care in “more relaxed environment.”
Life Savers has received rave reviews since their soft opening in December. The official ribbon cutting ceremony takes place tomorrow. For more information, visit www.lifesaverser.com.
