Film. ‘Jean of the Joneses.’ Dark Comedy Centered On a Jamaican-American Family Set to Debut on TV One.

Jean of the Joneses

After screening at major film festivals earlier this year, and receiving strong reviews, Jean of the Joneses is set to make its cable television debut.

The breakout project by writer/director Stella Meghie, is a dark comedy that centers on a budding writer named Jean Jones and her Jamaican-American family.

The life of 25-year-old Jean Jones, part of a multi-generational, middle-class Jamaican American family of strong-minded women, comes to an arresting stop when her estranged grandfather dies on the doorstep of the family’s brownstone during Sunday dinner. Tensions rise at the funeral as the Jones women face their divorces, infidelities and past transgressions. While uncovering the family’s buried secrets, Jean faces the tough truths of her failing career and her crippling inability to move on from a past relationship to the love that is staring her right in the face.

Jean of the Joneses stars Taylour Paige as Jean, alongside Sherri Shepherd, Gloria Reuben, Erica Ash, Michelle Hurst, Mamoudou Athie, and Francois Arnaud.

The film is set to premiere on TV One on Sunday, October 23rd at 7 p.m. EST, with an encore at 9 p.m. EST. Watch a trailer below.
