News that actress Noma Dumezweni would be playing a grown up Hermione in an upcoming West End production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child caused quite a stir late last year.
The play, which is written by Jack Thorne and based on a story by J.K. Rowling, takes place in the future and depicts an adult Harry Potter. Potter is now married with three children and working at the Ministry of Magic. His youngest son, Albus Severus Potter, is at the center of the action. Albus is struggling with living up to the family name.
The “race bent” casting brought forth both positive and negative reactions, and even got a cosign from the Word of God, aka Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling.
