Kunbi Tinuoye is an award-winning journalist, who has worked as a correspondent for BBC, MSNBC and TheGrio.com. In February of this year, Tinouye launched UrbanGeekz.com, a tech news site geared towards people of color, which she hopes will help to solve the tech industry’s ongoing diversity problem. Urban Geekz comes at a pivotal time when, despite the fact that diversity in STEM-related industries continues to be an ongoing conversation, companies aren’t actually seeing much change. For example, according recent report, only seven out of 1200 new hires at Facebook were black.
