Several news outlets are reporting the California Attorney General Kamala Harris (D) will be announcing her intention to run for California’s open Senate seat this morning.
A former District Attorney of San Francisco, Harris was elected to the post of Attorney General in 2010. In the past, Harris has been speculated as the candidate to succeed Eric Holder as United States Attorney General. President Obama nominated Loretta Lynch for the post. Harris’ name has also been floated as a possible choice for the United States Supreme Court.
Throughout her career Kamala Harris has been a vocal proponent of gun control. Soon after taking office in California, Harris also participated in the National Mortgage Settlement against five banks, securing a total debt reduction of nearly $12 billion for homeowners in the state of California. Harris also firmly opposes the death penalty.
