OMG. This is not a drill.
In the nearly two years since Lupita Nyong’o scored an Oscar win for her role in 12 Years a Slave, fans (like me) have been waiting on a major role from the star. While her role in Star Wars: The Force Awakens was a huge opportunity for Nyong’o, many expressed disappointment over the fact that the actress voiced a CGI character and never physically appeared in the film, unlike her co-stars. And then there’s the huge fan-backed push to see the Kenyan beauty star as Storm in an X-Men feature.
According to an exclusive report from The Hollywood Reporter, it looks like we’ll finally get our wish. Nyong’o is reportedly in talks to star in Intelligent Life, a science-fiction thriller which will be produced by Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment. The publication also reports that filmmaker Ava DuVernay will be receiving an offer to helm the film within the day.
Intelligent Life is a reworking of an earlier Trevorrow-Connolly project titled The Ambassador about a U.N. worker in a department that was created to represent humankind in the event of alien contact. The man falls in love with a mysterious woman who turns out to be an alien. The tone is said to be similar to Trevorrow’s Safety Not Guaranteed and takes The Ambassador to a larger scale story.
Nyong’o’s character will be the first person to make contact with the alien. Filming is expected to take place this summer.
