The 22nd annual Screen Actors Guild awards was all about diversity in television. The awards served as a preemptive contrast to the Oscars, which have sparked quite a bit of debate over the past few weeks.
Viola Davis, Uzo Aduba, and Queen Latifah all took home awards over the weekend. Davis won the award for “Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series” for her role as Annalise Keating in How to Get Away With Murder, Aduba won “Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series” for her role as Suzanne “Crazy Eyes” Warren in “Orange Is The New Black” and Latifah won the award for “Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Movie or Miniseries” for playing Bessie Smith in the HBO production BESSIE.
