Serena Williams at Wimbledon 2015.
For the third time in a row, following her tenth nomination, Serena Williams has been named the Laureus World Sportswoman.
Williams receives the award after having an incredible 2015 season. She logged her 700th career victory at the Miami Open by defeating Sabine Lisicki. Williams also became the first person since Steffi Graf in 1990 to hold the top ranking for two consecutive years. She finished out 2015 with a number on world ranking for the fifth time in her career.
This latest win means that Williams, one of only WTA players to earn such a distinction, is now officially the first woman to win three Laureus Awards. After her previous wins in 2003, and 2010 she was tied Russian pole vaulter Yelena Isinbayeva, who has also won the award twice.
