Originally from Baltimore, Maryland, Shinique Smith is an artist who works in many different mediums to explore the the materiality of the items we consume in a consumerist culture. The results of her documentation and exploration are mixed media works on canvas as well as sculptures. Her complex works mix familiar shapes, symbols and items with unique, fluid, embellishments. Shinique Smith lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.
