Filmmaker Stefani Saintonge recently released this teaser for her award-winning short film “Seventh Grade”. The film is a coming-of-age story about a young black girl. It’s synopsis states: “Everyone is growing up except Patrice. But when a raunchy rumor threatens her best friend’s reputation, she’s forced to join the party and embrace adolescence.”
Saintonge, who won ESSENCE Magazine’s Black Women in Hollywood Short Film Contest earlier this year, had this to say about “Seventh Grade”:
“When I was in middle school I remember…the stories that are out there for when [men] come of age, [was] about them being interested in sex. For women, they become the sex objects. So I wanted to explore what that’s like for women to deal with your body becoming a sex object. That’s why it’s really amazing.”
Hopefully we’ll be seeing more of this film on the 2015 festival circuit.
