Athi-Patra Ruga is a multi-faceted artist who works in a lot of different mediums ranging from tapestry to photography to performance art. Much of his work takes a deeper look at gender and identity in post-colonial Africa by employing a complex, fantasy world. Luxury brand Louis Vuitton recently commission Ruga to created a giant tapestry will be displayed this fall in the brand’s Champs-Élysées flagship store in Paris.

Athi-Patra Ruga lives and works in Johannesburg and Capetown.
