The casting for an upcoming live-action show based on the Archie comic books has been revealed. Newcomer Ashleigh Murray is set to play Josie, of Josie and the Pussycats fame, in the planned CW Network series, Riverdale. Murray joins KJ Apa, who will play Archie, alongside Cole Sprouse as Jughead Jones, Lili Reinhart as Betty Cooper, and Luke Perry as Fred Andrews. The hour-long drama will be a subversive take on the classic comics.

Ashleigh Murray’s Josie is described as “a gorgeous, snooty and ambitious girl who is the lead singer for popular band Josie and the Pussycats. She has zero interest in recording any songs written by fellow teen Archie.”

If the pilot gets picked up, Riverdale could be a breakout for Murray.
