In addition to being a talented actress and budding activist, Black-ish star Yara Shahidi is gaining press for her influential, youthful style.

Shahidi, who has been spotted on many a red carpet, in addition to sitting front row during New York Fashion Week, recently signed with New York’s Women Management. Women made the big announcement via social media earlier this week, which Shahidi excitedly shared.

Vogue also interviewed Shahidi about her modeling career and her activism. The young star used the opportunity to discuss the importance of representation.

“It’s important to see yourself in media. The visuals we’re presented with allow us to understand that things are attainable,” says Shahidi. “If you turn on the television and only see black drug dealers or black people in poverty, it shapes your opinions. I think it is part of our duty as content creators and people within the entertainment industry to challenge those stereotypes.”

Yara Shahidi joins fellow teen stars Amandla Stenberg, who signed with One Model Management last summer, and Willow Smith, who signed with Society Management last fall.
