Photographer and actress TaKiyah Wallace launched Brown Girls Do Ballet in 2013. The project, which started as a photo series, was created in hopes of encouraging ballerinas of color, like her young daughter.
Since then, Brown Girls Do Ballet has grown exponentially with nearly 100,000 fans on social media and a host of images that have gone viral. What started as a photo project is now a movement that supports the careers of budding ballerinas all over the country with advice and even financial support.
Now, Brown Girls Do Ballet is releasing The Ballerina’s Little Black Book. The book will feature advice, training information and personal stories and messages from professional black ballerinas. Misty Copeland even shares a message of her own.
The Ballerina’s Little Black Book drops on June 6th, and you can pre-order a copy HERE.
