Inspiring Beauty 50 Years of the Ebony Fashion Fair

The Ebony Fashion fair was founded in 1958 by Eunice Johnson, co-founder of the Johnson Publishing Company based in Chicago. The traveling fair featured mostly black male and female models modeling the latest fashions from major designers including Yves St Laurent, Oscar de la Renta, Pierre Cardin, Paco Rabanne, Givenchy, and Jean Paul Gaultier. The fair ended in 2009 after Johnson’s death.

The exhibition “Inspiring Beauty: 50 Years of Ebony Fashion Fair” takes an in-depth look at the history and heritage of the Ebony Fashion Fair. The traveling show, which has already opening in Chicago and Illinois closes this weekend at the Milwaukee Art Museum in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
