At this year’s Crunchies, held by science and technology publication Tech Crunch, one company decided to make a huge statement about the importance of a diverse workforce. Slack, which received the award for “Fastest Rising Startup” sent 4 black women from its engineering team to receive the honor. The company has always been outspoken about the importance of diversity in the tech field.
One of the engineers, Erica Baker, was also a runner-up for the Include Diversity award.
“The tech industry needs to see more diversity,” says Baker. “And I’m happy that we are in the vanguard for that. And I hope that we see more women of color, people of color, in general, in the future. ”
