Afropunk’s first London installment had quickly devolved into a bit of a saga after the choice to book M.I.A. as headliner drew sharp criticism and threats of a boycott.
When the organization delivered a seemingly tepid statement backing the rapper and maintaining that she wouldn’t be going anywhere, it only added more fuel to the fire.
In a new statement, last week, Afropunk revealed a change of heart, and the promise of a new headliner. Earlier today, they kept their word, announcing that Grace Jones would be headlining, and that a new group of artists, which includes Laura Mvula, The Noisettes, Big Joanie, and more, had been added to lineup.
