
Photographer Gretchen Robinette recently went inside a West Indian Day parade celebration at Secrets in Crown Heights. For decades, Crown Heights has served as an epicenter of West Indian culture in New York, with immigrants from Jamaica, Haiti, Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, and many other Caribbean nations.
Members of Phoenix International Mas Band, one of the hundreds of dance crews that will perform at the parade in September, sport beautiful headdresses made by designer Charles Matthew.
