Big things are in store for Kerry Washington and ABC, as the Scandal star just signed a major new development deal with ABC Studios and ABC Signature Studios.
Under the new pact, Washington will be expanding her behind-the-camera work, developing broadcast, cable and digital projects exclusively for ABC Studios and ABC Signature, which specializes in cable and digital content.
The deal was created under Washington’s recently launched production company Simpson Street. ABC Signature studios worked with the new company to produce Confirmation, the HBO film in which Washington starred as Anita Hill. It was announced just two months after ABC announced the promotion of Channing Dungey. Dungey, served as executive VP of development for dramas, movies and miniseries, became ABC’s president of entertainment, making her the first black woman to run a broadcast network.
In a statement, Washington emphasized the importance of “having a seat at the table” and also praised ABC’s “commitment to inclusive storytelling.”
