Desert Flower is an autobiographical film based on the true to life story of model Waris Dirie. Waris came onto the modeling scene in the late eighties where she garnered much success, doing shows all over from Milan to New York. Her harrowing story is an heartbreaking yet uplifting one. The issues tackled vary from Waris’s brief stint of homelessness to female genital mutilation (FGM). I won’t give away much more; it’s a definite must see.
