Oscar winning actress Lupita Nyong’o is the latest celebrity to speak out about the staggering lack of diversity at this year’s awards. Nyong’o joins Jada Pinkett Smith, Spike Lee, George Clooney, Steve McQueen, Idris Elba, Michael Moore, Don Cheadle, and David Oyelowo — a growing list of prominent actors and filmmakers who have decried the blatant whiteout at this year’s Oscars.
Nyong’o posted a statement to her Instagram page, expressing her disappointment at the lack of diverse nominees. She also quoted James Baldwin, captioning her image, “Not everything that is faced can be changed. But nothing can be changed until it is faced.”
