In an effort to give women all over the country even more options when taking control of their health, Planned Parenthood recently launched a new program, that will allow users to access some of the organization’s services online.
The organization’s “online visit” service is currently in pilot mode in Minnesota and Washington. Users of the service can speak to a clinician using a Android or iPhone app and even receive birth control consultations. The service lasts for 15 minutes and costs $45 and is part of the Planned Parenthoods ongoing efforts to reach out to the younger generation.
A spokeswoman for Planned Parenthood tells the Huffington Post,
“Every generation of women is different from their mothers, and what’s different about the current generation of young women is that they live a whole lot of their lives online,” Sarah Stoesz, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood Minnesota, North Dakota, and South Dakota, told The Huffington Post. “We don’t want to be our mother’s Planned Parenthood, we want to be our daughter’s Planned Parenthood. This is one of the many ways we’re doing just that.”
Virtual medical care is the wave of the future with millions of Americans choosing virtual programs for care and consultation. Planned Parenthood plans to extend the program to more states and also, to offer more services such as STI consultation.
