Inspired by medieval techniques of textile development Rahma is a unique, minimalist chic clothing line that’s designed in Australia and produced in Ethiopia. Rahma focuses on ethical textile development by local artisans.
“We have an ethical approach from the beginning to end,” says Rahma, the label’s founder and namesake.
“The fabrics we create are made through manufacturers with similar ethics too. The weavers are artisans after all, not just anyone can do what they do. br>
We also make sure to have an understanding with how they receive the cotton. Cotton is brought from farmers so it affects their livelihood. br>
After the fabrics are made, they are brought to my studio where I work closely with a couple of seamstresses to create the pieces. It is very important for me to establish how the products we make will be made every step of the way.”br>
