Created by artist Shaneque Gay and ex-school social worker Ruby Taylor, the Crowns & Gowns project will help 12 black girls know that they are loved, worthy, and beautiful. Each girl will receive an original piece of artwork and a tiara. Gay and Taylor will also be filming the girls receiving their special gifts, in order to show the footage to even more girls, so that they too can feel empowered.
