While Lagos has emerged as a fashion capital with a growing list of designers finding recognition on the national stage, the city is home to a massive secondhand clothing market.
BattaBox host Adeola takes viewers on a tour of Katangua, one of the largest secondhand clothing markets in Lagos, Nigeria. At the market, shoppers can scores jeans for N500, (just under $2), swimsuits for N300 (just under $1), and wedding dresses for N1,500 (under $5).
Many of the clothes appear to come from the United States, which might point to larges implications for the local clothing trade in the city. But, sellers in the market say that working in the secondhand trade has provided them new opportunities.
“With this business i’ve educated my kids, built a house and bought a car,” says one swimsuit seller.
