Models Aya Jones, Lineisy Montero, and Imaan Hammam, feature in 4 covers for Teen Vogue’s August 2015 Issue. The issue comes just weeks after the publication was blasted for an article about braids, and Senegalese twists, which only featured lighter complexioned, white, and white-passing models.
The diverse group of girls, ages 18, 19, and 20, hail from The Netherlands, The Dominican Republic, and France. They are all named “rising stars” by the publication.
Eighteen-year-old Hammam, who is of Moroccan and Egyptian descent, talked about her identity.
“Sometimes people call me Middle Eastern, and I’m like, ‘No, I’m black.’ I am proud of my culture, proud of who made me, proud to be here.”
