When it comes to images of black hair in the context of fine art, women are often the focus, and when Black men show up, they are usually sporting locs or other long styles.
“Waves”, a unique new book shot by the photography duo Trujillo Palmer features images of a popular hairstyle for Black men. While it’s a style specifically for shorter hair, the classic look takes time and dedication. The style became popular among Black and Latino in the United States in the 1950’s, but the use of du-rags for setting styles dates all the way back to 19th century Ethiopia.
