I was pretty curious about this shoot, after Givenchy Creative Director Riccardo Tisci posted a behind-the-scenes snap, back in May, of Willow in blue body paint alongside fashion editor Carine Roitfeld and photographer Jean-Paul Goude.
The image seemed to be begging for yet another debate on cultural appropriation, and quite a few of Tisci’s followers decried Willow’s choice of dress.
Now that the final image has dropped, the motivations behind the shoot seemed a little bit more fleshed out.
Willow tells Harper’s Bazaar, “When I was little, I would go into my mom’s meditation room and read her books about goddesses. Kali stayed with me because she is terrifying yet beautiful.”
