The political climate in Jamaica in especially the 1970s was very violent and polarizing. Two rival political parties roamed the land, PNP (People’s National Party and JLP (Jamaica Labor Party) and both wanted power at any cost. ‘Betta Mus Come’ is a love story set in 1970s Jamaica with dramatization of fictional events stemming from the tempestuous relations between the rival parties. I must forewarn it’s violent but the film does a brilliant job depicting life during the warring times. The film distributed by the lovely Ava DuVernay’s company, African-American Film Festival Releasing Movement (AFFRM).
