Director Amma Asante ascended into the A-list with her critically acclaimed breakout film Belle, but her journey was a difficult one, wrought with self-doubt. In an inspiring talk for TEDx Brixton, Asante talks the power of defining yourself and creating your own narrative in creative industries. Asante acknowledges that, of course, this is more easier said than done, stating that “numbers don’t lie.” Only 0.4% of the directors in Hollywood are black women.
