Spoken word artist Theresa Lola teams up with Russeni for “The Middle,” in an intense, driving, and deeply emotional piece in which poet takes on the role of the abuser and the abuser.

“Why do I still love you? On our wedding day when I said “til death do us part,’ I didn’t know that it would be by your hands,” Lola says at one point.

Russeni responds, ending with “but, I don’t mean it.”

Throughout several points in the performance the lines are chilling, and eerily familiar. Watch below.
