Last week Lifetime announced that actress and America’s Next Top Model alum Yaya DaCosta Alafia will be playing Whitney Houston in a Biopic directed by Angela Bassett. This week, the network announced another biopic, about the life of Aaliyah, with teen dream star Zendaya Coleman playing the gone-too-soon R&B songstress.

Previously, it was rumored that emerging actress, model, and daughter of Eddie Murphy, Bria Murphy might have snagged the role.

I’m honestly not so sure about this casting decision, but I’ll have my popcorn ready for the ensuing colorism debates and for the film itself when it finally hits the small screen.
